Hummingbird

My youngest child took this photo and I love it. I like the composition, I like the hummingbird shown in two ways from two angles; directly and by the shadow. I like the memory of watching my child observe and take the photo. What a great image. It makes me happy. My youngest would also like me to mention that they are still in elementary school and they are very proud of this photo.

Santa Cruz

The predecessor to this mural at Day’s Market in Santa Cruz was the second mural I became aware of and that I would look forward to seeing. This is the third version of the mural that I have enjoyed on this wall over the years.

And this is a recently created new mural with mosaics next to Sea Bright Beach.

I love the color, textures, and lines that presented themselves all within this one little space and time.

Buckeye Metamorphosis

This was a wonderful find. One day we discovered more than 20 caterpillars on a single bush. We went back to visit regularly and watched the metamorphosis process of a buckeye butterfly.

Buckeye Metamorphosis
September 20th – This caterpillar is about two inches long in this photo.

September 29th – The chrysalis. Not sure which of the many caterpillars made this specific chrysalis but I was lucky to follow this one for the rest of the process.

October 8 – This is the butterfly that emerged from the same chrysalis in the picture above this one. After emerging, the butterflies tended to sit still for a while with their wings closed. You see here the underside of the wings because they are closed. (Photo by partner)
